Logos, stickers, product cut-outs and icons are often delivered as WebP with a transparent background. PNG keeps that transparency and opens in every design tool, so it is the natural format to convert to when you need to reuse a WebP graphic.
How to convert WEBP to PNG
- Click Select WEBP files or drag them onto the box above. You can add as many as you like.
- Check that the target says PNG. Click the slider icon next to a file to change its options.
- Press Convert. Each file shows its own progress, and the work happens on your device.
- Download files one by one, or use Download all (ZIP). Press Convert more to start a new batch.
Need a smaller file for a website instead? Keep the WebP. Converting to PNG is for compatibility and editing, not for saving space.
WEBP vs PNG
What is WEBP?
WebP is Google’s web image format. Lossless WebP files are typically about a quarter smaller than PNG, and lossy WebP is much smaller than JPEG, which is why CDNs and site builders convert images to WebP automatically. More about the WEBP format.
What is PNG?
PNG is lossless and supports 8-bit alpha transparency. It is the default format for screenshots, interface assets and any image you plan to edit, layer or place on a coloured background. More about the PNG format.
| WEBP | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | WebP image | Portable Network Graphics |
| Extensions | .webp | .png |
| MIME type | image/webp | image/png |
When to convert WEBP to PNG
- You need a transparent logo or cut-out in Photoshop, Illustrator, Keynote or PowerPoint.
- An app or upload form accepts PNG but not WebP.
- You want a lossless master copy before making edits.
- You are preparing artwork for printing on mugs, shirts or stickers.
Quality and settings
PNG output is lossless, so the converted file shows exactly what the WebP decoded to, including semi-transparent edges. If the WebP was lossy, its compression artefacts are preserved, not repaired. File sizes grow, often by 2–5×, because PNG cannot use WebP’s predictive coding. Use the width and height options to scale down oversized graphics during conversion.
