Convert OPUS to MP3

Free and private: your OPUS files are converted on your own device and never uploaded.

or drop files here · processed on your device, never uploaded

Export a voice message from WhatsApp or Telegram and you get an .opus (or .ogg) file that Windows Media Player, iTunes, many car systems and transcription tools will not open. Drop the voice notes here to turn them into MP3s. Because these are often personal messages, it matters that ConvertCove does the conversion on your device and uploads nothing.

How to convert OPUS to MP3

    1. Click Select OPUS files or drag them onto the box above. You can add as many as you like.
    2. Check that the target says MP3. Click the slider icon next to a file to change its options.
    3. Press Convert. Each file shows its own progress, and the work happens on your device.
    4. Download files one by one, or use Download all (ZIP). Press Convert more to start a new batch.

WhatsApp voice notes saved as .ogg are Opus inside. Drop them in as they are: they show up as OGG, and FFmpeg reads the Opus audio inside and converts it to MP3 just the same.

    OPUS vs MP3

    What is OPUS?

Opus is a modern open codec built for real-time speech and music. Messaging apps use it at very low bitrates, often 16–32 kbps mono, which is remarkably clear for voice. The audio is stored in an Ogg container, so some apps name the files .ogg and others .opus. More about the OPUS format.

    What is MP3?

MP3 is less efficient than Opus, but every player, phone, editor and transcription service accepts it, which is usually the whole point of converting. More about the MP3 format.

When to convert OPUS to MP3

    • You want to keep or forward a voice message as a normal audio file.
    • A transcription tool or speech-to-text service does not take Opus.
    • You need to add a voice note to a video or presentation.
    • Your music player or car stereo cannot play .opus files.

    Quality and settings

Opus voice notes are already heavily compressed, and MP3 needs more bits than Opus for the same quality. Mono at 64 kbps keeps everything a 24–32 kbps voice note contains; going higher just makes the file bigger. For Opus music files at 128 kbps or more, choose 192 kbps MP3. The MP3 is resampled to 48 kHz, matching what Opus decodes to.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I get the .opus file out of WhatsApp?

On Android, long-press the voice message and choose Share, or find it in WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Voice Notes. On iPhone, long-press, choose Forward, then the share icon and Save to Files.

What bitrate should I choose for voice messages?

Mono at 64 kbps. Voice notes are recorded at low bitrates, so anything higher only increases the size.

    Are my voice messages uploaded?

No. They are decoded and encoded inside your browser tab; nothing is sent to a server.

Can I convert several voice notes at once?

Yes. Select them all, convert, and download them individually or as one ZIP.
